- The majestic horse
With only a few exceptions the role of the horse was to work. The heavy horses provided the raw muscle that not only ploughed the fields but did the heavy lifting and carrying on all the farms, Much loved by many and equally respected their life was one of toil with few rewards but few images evoke a sense of times past than the big horses ploughing the fields accompanied by a cloud of gulls.
Ploughing a single furrow.
Reaping the rewards of a good harvest.
Looks too posed - especially if the lady with the horse is carrying her high heels
Pretty picture but the ladies do not look like farm workers
Heavy duty work with the heavyweight horses
Even the soil looks heavy for these hard working horses
Exuding pride in these fine heavy horses

These look like swedes
Is this a root crop or could they be flints?
A cheerful band but are they working or posing?
The carriers also rely on the work of the horses
Well dressed for a day in the fields and not just the horses
Ready and willing to take the strain
Piled high probably very heavy for these two
These look like horses for riding rather than pulling
These ones definitely pulled their weight
Light work for these two fine specimens
Not at all sure what is going on here
Never realised farming regulations were so rigorously enforced
