In the 1880s there were over 450 pubs within Norwich's City walls. There were also seven breweries and a multitude of malthouses. Today there are no big breweries and fewer than 60 pubs. However, we now have a huge choice of quality beers from a multitude of smaller breweries based around Norfolk and elsewhere in the UK. The City's selection of pubs are arguably finer than anywhere else in the country. This website highlights a selection of Norwich pubs, both past and present, and tells the story of brewing in Norwich.
